Australian couple with dwarfism have three children against all odds

đ This Couple With Dwarfism Faced Cruel Criticism for Becoming Parents — Their Story Deserves to Be Heard
It seems to be part of human nature to get curious about others’ lives — and sometimes, to overstep. Whether it's asking newlyweds when they’ll have children or pestering new parents about baby number two, many people feel oddly entitled to ask deeply personal questions.
For Charli Worgan and her husband Cullen, a couple from Australia who both live with different forms of dwarfism, that curiosity turned into harsh judgment. The moment they announced they were expecting children, some people questioned why they would choose to become parents at all.
Yes — simply because they have dwarfism.
đ Parenting Under a Microscope
When Charli and Cullen welcomed their first daughter, Charli shared their joy on Instagram. But instead of just receiving congratulations, they were met with a flood of intrusive comments and unsolicited opinions about their decision to have children.
People seemed unable to understand something very simple: that having children was a deeply personal and well-considered choice.
When Charli became pregnant with their third child, she decided to open up even more about the reality of their journey — including the challenges most people never see.
𧏠The Emotional Weight of Genetic Testing
Due to both parents having different forms of dwarfism, every pregnancy came with complex genetics. There were several possible outcomes for their children:
-
The child could inherit one form of dwarfism (from either parent),
-
The child could be average height, or
-
The child could inherit both forms — a combination that doctors warned would be fatal.
At just 12 weeks pregnant, when most expectant parents are excitedly planning baby announcements, Charli was undergoing chorionic villus sampling (CVS) — a painful and high-risk procedure where a large needle is inserted through the abdomen to retrieve placental tissue for genetic testing.
“It carries a 2% risk of miscarriage,” Charli shared, “but it was necessary to know whether our baby would be healthy enough to survive.”
Their daughters, Tully and Tilba, both have dwarfism. For baby number three, the couple faced an agonizing wait for test results — and the heartbreaking possibility of having to terminate the pregnancy if the baby inherited both conditions.
đś A Beautiful Surprise: Baby Rip
In February 2021, baby Rip was born — healthy, thriving, and bringing even more joy to the Worgan family.
Still, criticism didn’t stop.
“I’ve been judged for choosing to have babies with these odds,” Charli said. “But people don’t understand the depth and weight behind our decisions. Sharing just a glimpse of this journey hopefully shows that it’s not a simple choice. It’s about love, hope, and being kind.”
Through it all, Charli remained open, honest, and brave — not just for her own family, but for countless others who might walk a similar path.
“There’s no one ‘right’ way to be a mother,” she added. “But I’m certain there’s no ‘wrong’ way either.”
â¤ď¸ Love Over Everything
Despite the critics and the physical and emotional challenges they’ve endured, Charli and Cullen have built a family rooted in resilience, compassion, and joy. Their three children are growing up in a household full of love — and that’s all that truly matters.
They’ve proven that what others see as “odds” are simply part of their unique journey — and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
⨠We wish this beautiful family nothing but continued happiness and strength.
