Instructions

🍰 Step 1: Bake the Cake Layers

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line 3 8-inch round cake pans.

  2. In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and honey until light and fluffy.

  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla and lemon zest.

  5. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk into the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour.

  6. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely.

🍯 Step 2: Make the Honey Buttercream

  1. Beat butter until smooth. Add honey, vanilla, and mix again.

  2. Gradually add powdered sugar. Add cream as needed for desired consistency.

  3. Add yellow food coloring if desired for a soft honey shade.

🐝 Step 3: Create the Honeycomb

  1. Melt white candy melts or chocolate.

  2. Spread over the bubble wrap (bubble side up) into a thin sheet.

  3. Once set, gently peel off the wrap—you'll have a perfect honeycomb texture. Cut into sections for decorating.

🎨 Step 4: Assemble & Decorate

  1. Level and stack cake layers with buttercream in between.

  2. Frost the outside with a rustic swirl pattern on top.

  3. Attach honeycomb sheets to the side of the cake.

  4. Decorate with edible flowers and bees. Place a few on top and around the cake for a whimsical effect.

🌼 Tips

  • Add crushed nuts or honey syrup between layers for extra moisture.

  • Chill the cake before applying the honeycomb to ensure it sticks well.

  • Use piping bags to create small floral accents at the base.
