Rich, nutty, gooey, and utterly indulgent—this cake slice is a chocolate lover’s dream!
Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake:

1¾ cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1½ tsp baking soda
-
1½ tsp baking powder
-
½ tsp salt
-
1¾ cups granulated sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
½ cup vegetable oil
-
1 cup buttermilk
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 cup hot coffee (or hot water)
For the Caramel-Pecan Filling:

1½ cups chopped pecans
-
1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
For the Chocolate Ganache:
-
1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
-
½ cup heavy cream
Topping:
-
Extra caramel drizzle
-
Extra chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake Layers
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and vanilla until well combined.
Gradually add the dry mixture. Stir in hot coffee or water—batter will be thin.
Divide evenly among the pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the layers cool completely.
2. Make the Ganache
Heat the cream just until it begins to simmer. Pour it over the chocolate chips and let sit for 2 minutes.
Stir until smooth and glossy. Let it cool slightly to thicken.
3. Assemble the Cake
Place the first cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of caramel sauce over it and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
Repeat with the second cake layer. Add the third layer on top.
Pour the ganache over the top, letting it drip beautifully down the sides.
4. Finish with Toppings
Drizzle more caramel over the cake and top with extra chopped pecans for that signature turtle crunch.
