Learn to Listen to Your Body: Read the Face for Health
According to Traditional Eastern Medicine, the under-eye area holds a lot of fluid regulated by the kidneys. If this area often appears dark or shadowed, it could be a signal that your kidneys are in need of support.
It’s not just a matter of poor sleep—kidney issues often show up around the eyes, so this area deserves special attention.
In the past, when advanced diagnostic tools didn’t exist, ancient practitioners relied on four key diagnostic methods:
-
Looking (Vọng) – observing external signs
-
Listening/Smelling (Văn) – analyzing the voice and scent
-
Asking (Vấn) – gathering patient history and symptoms
-
Touching (Thiết) – feeling the pulse
Here, I’d like to introduce facial diagnosis (or face reading) to help assess internal organ health based on external signs:
1. Lungs – Look at the Glabella (area between the eyebrows)
This area is called the “Yin Tang” in Traditional Medicine.
-
If it appears healthy with a pinkish hue, it indicates good lung health.
-
A dark, dull color may signal the presence of a serious illness.
-
Bright red suggests lung heat or inflammation.
-
Pale white may indicate blood or energy deficiency.
-
Greenish tone could be a sign of blood stagnation.
2. Heart – Look between the eyes
-
Excessive redness may indicate an overheated heart, which can cause restlessness or insomnia.
-
A purplish-blue color may point to blood stasis, possibly due to coronary artery issues.
3. Liver – Look along the bridge of the nose
-
Redness on the top of the nose bridge may indicate liver heat or inflammation.
-
Blue or black discoloration here might signal liver fibrosis or high liver enzyme levels.
4. Gallbladder & Pancreas – Look at the sides of the nose
-
The right side relates to the gallbladder: a pale tone could indicate low energy and chronic fatigue; red might suggest fever or nausea.
-
The left side relates to the pancreas: pale color implies coldness or deficiency, often seen in women with lower abdominal pain; green or yellow discoloration may suggest digestive disorders, poor appetite, or acid reflux.
5. Stomach – Look at the nasal wings (nostrils)
-
Pale and dull wings suggest weak digestion—these individuals often experience loss of appetite or bloating.
-
Light red and dry wings may indicate dehydration in the stomach, accompanied by dry mouth and chapped lips, often with constipation.
-
Bright red, flushed wings can signal excess heat in the stomach, possibly with bad breath and swollen gums.
6. Kidneys – Look at the cheeks and under the eyes
-
Healthy kidneys show through bright, soft, and smooth cheeks.
-
Pale gray, oily shine, or flushed red may indicate kidney problems.
7. Uterus and Prostate – Look at the philtrum (groove between the nose and upper lip)
-
A white tone may indicate blood or energy deficiency.
-
Yellowish color suggests spleen deficiency.
-
Red indicates internal heat or inflammation.
For women, this could signal uterine inflammation; for men, possible prostate issues.
Sometimes, lab results may appear normal, but your face shows early warning signs. In such cases, it’s wise to get a second opinion or make lifestyle changes before the condition becomes serious.
Your body never lies—learn to listen to it.
Please share this so others can stay healthy too.
