2 ½ cups granulated sugar
-
4 large eggs, room temperature
-
1 tbsp vanilla extract
-
1 ½ cups buttermilk
Buttercream Frosting
-
1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
-
5 cups powdered sugar
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
-
4–6 tbsp heavy cream (adjust for consistency)
-
Gel food coloring (teal/emerald green for the outer icing)
Decoration
-
Assorted macarons (pink, beige, gold)
-
Fresh berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)
-
Orange slices (thin)
-
Waffle cone pieces
-
Maraschino cherries
-
Edible flowers (pink hibiscus, lilies)
-
Gold sugar decorations or edible gold leaf
-
Decorative miniature ornaments (optional, for a royal theme)
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake Layers
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
-
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
-
Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, starting and ending with dry.
-
Divide batter evenly into pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
-
Let cool completely before frosting.
2. Prepare the Buttercream
-
Beat softened butter until creamy.
-
Add powdered sugar gradually, mixing well.
-
Add vanilla and heavy cream until smooth and fluffy.
-
Tint with teal or emerald gel coloring for the base layer of icing.
3. Assemble the Cake
-
Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread buttercream evenly, then stack the next layer. Repeat until all layers are stacked.
-
Apply a thin crumb coat, chill for 15 minutes, then frost with the teal-colored buttercream.
4. Decorate
-
Pipe white buttercream rosettes around each tier’s edge.
-
Arrange macarons, fresh berries, orange slices, and waffle cone pieces decoratively.
-
Add cherries and edible flowers for a lush, garden look.
-
Finish with gold sugar accents or edible gold leaf for a royal touch.
๐ก Tip: This cake is perfect for weddings, birthdays, or royal-themed tea parties — and it looks even better when displayed on a gold-trimmed cake stand.
