Senior dog was returned to shelter for “being boring” — rescuers discover what’s really wrong
🐾 Senior Husky Returned for Being “Boring” Finds Compassion and Care at Last

We all love hearing about shelter dogs finding their forever homes — but sadly, not every adoption ends in a happy ever after.
That was the heartbreaking reality for Honey, a senior husky who was adopted during the Mega Adoption Event in Orange County, Florida. While the event helped many dogs find homes, Honey’s journey didn’t go as planned.
Shortly after being adopted, Honey was returned — the reason? Her new family said she was too “boring.” According to a post by Rescue Me Tampa, Honey didn’t show much interest in playing or eating. The family’s daughter, who had hoped for a “more playful friend,” felt Honey lacked personality.
Tragically, this wasn’t Honey’s first time being surrendered. Her previous owners — who had her for five years — gave her up claiming their child had developed allergies.
To make matters worse, Honey was returned to a kill shelter, putting her life at immediate risk. But within just 24 hours, she was saved by Husky Life Rescue.
The rescue took Honey straight to the vet — and uncovered the truth behind her so-called "boring" demeanor. Honey was closer to 15 years old, not 10 as previously reported. She was also suffering from a host of untreated health issues, including:
-
A urinary tract infection
-
Respiratory infection
-
Elevated liver and pancreas levels
-
Pancreatitis, a serious condition that made her future uncertain
“It’s no wonder she was ‘boring’ — it’s hard to have energy when you feel that sick,” said Husky Life Rescue.
Thankfully, with quick medical attention and medication, Honey began to improve.
“She’s doing much better in just two days,” said her veterinarian, Dr. Y, in an interview with FOX 13.
Now under the care of a loving rescue team, Honey is receiving the support, patience, and medical care she so desperately needed — and deserved all along.
“Honey is so sweet and such a good girl. We already love her so much,” her rescuers shared.
She’s also recovering from a bad case of kennel cough, and for now, Honey is not up for adoption. Her rescue family is giving her all the time she needs to heal and feel safe.
It’s unclear whether Honey will be placed for adoption again in the future — or if she’ll remain in the care of Husky Life Rescue permanently. Either way, she is finally in loving hands.
💔 It’s heartbreaking that Honey was once dismissed as “boring” when in fact, she was just a sick, elderly dog in need of help. But today, she’s surrounded by compassion and care — and that makes all the difference.
Please share Honey’s story to honor senior dogs everywhere and remind others of the patience and love they deserve. ❤️🐶
