Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming, has revealed the emotional choice she made to move the actor into a second home as he continues his battle with dementia — a decision she called the “hardest” of her life.

Speaking on Emma and Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey – A Diane Sawyer Special, Heming explained that the move was not about her husband’s needs, but about protecting their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.

“Bruce would want that for our daughters,” Heming said. “He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.”

A Home Close, but Separate

The 49-year-old actress clarified that Willis, 70, now lives nearby with a full-time care team. Despite the move, the children remain closely connected with their father. Heming shared that she brings the girls over for regular breakfasts and dinners so they can continue to spend meaningful time with him.

The “Die Hard” legend, who also shares three adult daughters — Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31 — with ex-wife Demi Moore, is said to be calmer in his new environment.

A Memoir and a Mission

Heming revealed the update while promoting her upcoming memoir, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, due out on Sept. 9. The book details Willis’ health struggles, which began when he retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that affects speech, writing, and comprehension.

In 2023, doctors confirmed Willis was battling frontotemporal dementia — a progressive neurological disorder that causes severe changes in language, behavior, and movement.

“His Brain Is Failing Him”

During the interview, Heming acknowledged that her husband’s communication abilities are fading, forcing loved ones to adapt.

“Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is in really great health overall, it’s just his brain that is failing him,” she explained.

Even so, Heming shared that glimpses of her husband still shine through. “He has such a hearty laugh, and sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye or that smirk. I just get transported… but as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes.”

A Love That Endures

Willis and Heming began dating in 2007 and married in 2009, later renewing their vows in 2019. Their partnership has become a testament to resilience as they face the reality of his illness together.

Though his dementia has brought heartbreaking changes, Heming emphasized that Bruce remains surrounded by love, family, and moments of joy — a reminder that while his mind may be slipping away, his presence continues to shape their lives.
