🍵 Matcha Cupcakes with White Chocolate Hearts

Ingredients

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/3 cup milk

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp matcha powder

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For decoration:

  • White chocolate (melted, to make heart shapes)

  • A little extra matcha powder for dusting


Instructions

  1. Prepare the white chocolate hearts:

    • Melt white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water (or in microwave at 30-second intervals).

    • Pour into silicone heart molds and refrigerate until set.

  2. Bake the cupcakes:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

    • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and matcha powder.

    • In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    • Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla extract.

    • Gradually mix in dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until batter is smooth.

    • Divide into cupcake liners and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.

  3. Make the frosting:

    • Beat softened butter until creamy.

    • Gradually add powdered sugar and matcha powder.

    • Mix in vanilla and heavy cream until frosting is fluffy.

  4. Assemble:

    • Pipe matcha frosting onto cooled cupcakes in swirls.

    • Dust lightly with matcha powder.

    • Place a white chocolate heart on top of each cupcake.
