Top 5 Flooring Trends for 2025

As we move into 2025, flooring trends are shifting towards warmth, durability, and bold design choices. Here’s what experts predict will be the most popular flooring styles in the coming year.

1. The Return of Warm Wood Tones

In recent years, white oak with its soft gray and light tones has dominated interior design, reflecting a focus on wellness and tranquility. However, experts predict a shift toward warmer wood tones in 2025.

"Lighter stains like white oak will remain popular for their versatility, but warm neutral browns are making a comeback, bringing a timeless, classic feel to interiors," says Kerrie Kelly, CEO and Creative Director of Kerrie Kelly Studio.

Additionally, parquet flooring is returning with a modern twist. Instead of traditional small wood pieces, expect to see herringbone patterns and larger-scale bespoke layouts that add a sophisticated touch.

2. Engineered Wood for Durability

While many homeowners will opt for wood flooring over carpet, not all will choose solid hardwood. Engineered wood is set to take the lead in 2025, offering the aesthetic appeal of hardwood with greater resistance to moisture and temperature changes.

"Engineered wood combines beauty with durability, making it ideal for homes in various climates," explains Kelly.

Compared to solid hardwood, engineered wood is also more affordable, typically costing $4–$7 per square foot compared to $8+ for hardwood. However, its thin hardwood veneer means it can only be refinished a few times, unlike solid wood.

3. Bigger, Bolder Tiles

Tile flooring is embracing bold designs and larger formats.

"We’re moving away from neutral shades and seeing an increase in oversized tiles with vibrant colors and playful patterns," says interior designer Christina Kim. This trend is particularly noticeable in modern bathroom renovations, where large-format porcelain tiles mimicking natural stone are becoming a go-to choice.

In kitchens and bathrooms, oversized tiles in soft neutral tones like gray and terracotta will also gain popularity. Herringbone tile patterns will continue to be a staple, offering a fresh take on traditional tile layouts.

4. Layered Rugs & Textural Contrast

Layering rugs—where a larger flatwoven rug acts as a border for a smaller textured rug on top—has been a growing trend in recent years. Designers predict this layered look will become even more popular in 2025, emphasizing contrasting textures.

"Think large woven rugs underneath hand-knotted or shaggy accent rugs," says Kelly.

When it comes to single-rug styling, expect to see bold geometric patterns and freeform organic shapes making a statement.

Sustainability is also a key factor: wool and jute rugs will dominate due to their eco-friendly properties, though high-quality synthetic blends will still be sought after for their easy maintenance.

5. Cozy Wall-to-Wall Carpeting

While wall-to-wall carpeting has declined in recent years, experts predict its return in cozy, private spaces like bedrooms.

"Plush, high-pile carpets in soft neutrals like beige and ivory will make a comeback," Kelly explains.

Carpet tiles, known for their flexibility and easy replacement, will remain popular in home offices and playrooms. They are also a great choice for pet owners, particularly for cats that enjoy textured surfaces.

Final Thoughts

From warm wood flooring and bold tiles to textured rugs and cozy carpets, 2025’s flooring trends focus on timeless aesthetics, durability, and personal expression. Whether you're renovating or just updating a space, these trends offer both style and practicality for the modern home.
